I upcycled a huge outdoor umbrella!

My huge umbrella’s cover broke.  It was ripped and so faded by the sun.  I spent hours on the web trying to find a replacement cover.  They are not anywhere!

I can’t believe that you have to buy a new one every couple of years.  The metal frame should be reusable!  Not good enough everyone! A new umbrella costs hundreds of dollars and tents are always for sale somewhere! Keeps them out of landfill!

Well, I covered a fancy umbrella when I was in my teens, for a fancy going out costume.  And I felt so lovely in it!  So, I knew it could be done.

I could make a new cover for my outside barbeque umbrella.  I had been given a huge real canvas tent.  I thought about the size of this tent and decided there was plenty of material in the tent to make a new cover.

So this is what I found after I carefully took the old umbrella cover off, and unpicked all the seams with a quick unpick.  It took a  couple of long movies! But it was worth it.

Needed for this project:-

Quick unpick (Amazon -this link or this one in Spotlight)

Big scissors- this makes it easier to cut the large (if you are making a big umbrella)  (Amazon link), Spotlight link

Thread  to match your fabric

Enough fabric to cover whatever type of umbrella you are making! I used an old tent for this one, but the small umbrella is covered with a fabulous silk voile!

this is the faded top that was on the umbrella! You can see how terrible it looked!

I cut the whole umbrella into its pieces, using both scissors and several quik unpickers.
